Data Sufficency - GMAT Question of the Day

Explanation
Statement (1) As long as Jasmine's age is 2/3 Katty's age, Jasmine could be any age. This statement alone is not sufficient.

The correct answer could be B, C, or E.

Statement (2) As long as the sum of their ages is 40, Jasmine could be any age up to 40. This statement alone is not sufficient.

The correct answer is either C or E.

Statement (1 & 2) If Jasmine's age is 2x, then Katty's age is 3x, and (2 + 3)x = 40, which we can solve for x. Statements (1) and (2) together are sufficient.

The correct answer is C.
