Data Sufficiency - GMAT Question of the Day

Explanation
Statement (1) Factoring gives us (a − 3)(a + 2) = 0. There are two unique roots (which we could also deduce without factoring since the quadratic does not have the form ), so this statement alone is insufficient.

The answer is B, C, or E.

Statement (2) a could be 5 less than any prime number, so this statement alone is insufficient. The correct answer is either C or E. Statement (1 & 2) Of the two roots in statement (1), only a = −2 satisfies statement (2). The statements together are sufficient.

The correct answer is C.
