Though many applicants are still in the throes of Round 1, some of the top business schools have already released class profiles for the Fall 2014 incoming MBA class. Wharton caused a slight stir when it reported an average GMAT score of 728, highest in the school’s history and 2 points higher than Harvard’s 726.As of this post, Wharton has reported the highest GMAT score of the year, but Stanford, which reported a score of 732 last year, will almost certainly end up taking the top place.
While the average GMAT score at some of the top schools, like Ross and Anderson, have flatlined or even declined, most of the top schools have seen an increase in the average score. So far, Yale has enjoyed the largest jump, with an average GMAT score of 719, 5 points higher than last year’s 714.
From what we see of the average GMAT scores for 2014, that trend continues with this year’s incoming class. The GMAT scores at top business schools continue to creep upward, and for some applicants, that point difference could prove crucial.
